For Texas residents who are pursuing a culinary education (in or out of state), the W. Price Jr. Memorial Scholarship is an excellent opportunity for financial assistance. This award is given out annually by the Texas Restaurant Association, named in honor of the first executive director of the organization. Four awards are given out each year. Two are given to students attending a two-year college, and two are given to students attending a four-year culinary college or university. Students attending two-year college have the chance to win $2,000, and students attending a four-year college may receive $5,000.
To qualify, you must be a Texas resident, but you can attend school out of state if you wish. You must be a registered full time student doing 12 hours of coursework per semester or more, and you must be majoring in a food service or hospitality program. Your GPA must be 2.75 or higher overall, and your GPA for your major must be 3.5 or higher. You may not apply if you are in your final semester of college, and you cannot apply your award toward summer semesters. You may only win the W. Price Jr. Memorial Scholarship once (it is not renewable in future years). Apply by February 1st.
