Are you pursuing a doctoral degree in engineering, math or science? Are you a US citizen with an interest in defense? If so, you definitely will want to apply for the exciting National Defense Science & Engineering Graduate Fellowship offered by the Department of Defense. The DOD gives out hundreds of these scholarships, renewable for three years each. Most students have their tuition and fees paid for in full, and receive an additional $25,000 stipend which can be used for living expenses. NDSEG Fellows are not expected to serve in the military or provide any other service in return for the grant money.
To qualify, you must demonstrate strong aptitude in your area as well as an interest in defense. You can be working on a PhD in physics, mathematics, computer science, engineering (including civil, naval, materials, aeronautical, electrical and other subfields), biosciences, oceanography, chemistry, or cognitive science. The application cycle opens each year in September and runs through December 20th. Submit your application form along with your GRE score, electronic transcripts of graduate work and undergraduate work, three references, and information on any patents, presentations or publications you may have under your name. Good luck winning this prestigious award!
