For Methodist students pursuing a degree in religious journalism or mass communications, the Leonard M. Perryman Communications Scholarship is a great opportunity. This scholarship awards $2,500, and is named in honor of Leonard M. Perryman, a United Methodist Church journalist who worked in his field for almost 30 years.
In order to qualify for this scholarship, you must be an undergraduate student enrolled in an accredited university, and a member of the United Methodist church. Whether your major is journalism or communications, you must be planning on pursuing a career in religious journalism. A single scholarship is given out every year, and the application deadline is March 15th. Since the candidate pool is restricted to members of the United Methodist church only, you have a good chance of winning if you apply. Your chances are made even better since you cannot get this scholarship for other types of journalism, only for religious journalism. When you apply, you must demonstrate academic excellence through transcripts and your GPA, as well as letters of reference. You also must clearly express your future goals, and demonstrate that you are committed to your faith and to the United Methodist church.
