For Illinois residents pursuing a culinary education, the Illinois Restaurant Association Educational Foundation Scholarships are an excellent opportunity. To apply, you must be a permanent resident of the state, and be accepted at an accredited culinary school, college or university. Your major must be in culinary art, restaurant management, or another program directly related to food service. Applications must be submitted by May 2nd annually. Awards may range from $1,000-$3,000 on average.
You will be judged according to a number of different factors. Your application will be judged on the merit of your presentation (proper spelling, etc.), and you will also need to answer several essay questions. You will be judged both for the content of your essay and your essay’s presentation. Additionally, you will need to provide transcripts to demonstrate your academic commitment. If you have achieved any honors, you will need to send in photocopies, and if you have industry-related experience (paid or volunteer-based), that will also be a boon to your application. The more competitive your application, and the more complete each aspect is, the better your chances are of winning. This is a wonderful opportunity for culinary students in Illinois, so don’t miss out.
