For minority students with an interest in nutrition, physical education or culinary arts in the state of California, few opportunities are as great as CANFIT Scholarships. CANFIT provides scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students. To be considered, you need to be a minority of African-American, American Indian, Alaska Native, Asian American, Pacific Islander, Latino or Hispanic heritage. You also need to be a California resident studying in-state.
If you are an undergraduate, you must be enrolled in an approved bachelor degree program in either nutrition or physical education, and you need to have completed 50 semester units with a 2.5 or higher GPA. If you are a graduate student, you must be enrolled in either a masters program or a doctorate program in nutrition, physical education, or public health. You need to have 12-15 units of coursework under your belt, and your GPA needs to be 3.0 or higher. If you are enrolled at a culinary arts school, you can also apply for a CANFIT scholarship. It does not matter how many units you have completed. So if you are a high school senior with acceptance in a culinary program, you could apply for CANFIT. For all other disciplines, you need to be at least an undergraduate.
