If you are a theatre student attending Western Michigan University (WMU), you may qualify for one of the university’s endowed scholarships. The WMU Lawrence, Clara & Evelyn E. Burke Scholarship is available to theatre and journalism students. Anyone can qualify so long as they maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher and demonstrate commitment to their future career. You do not even need to be attending full time. You can apply as a graduate or undergraduate student. Each year is a new opportunity to win.
What are the specific requirements? If you are a theatre student, you need to have participated in at least one theatre production—this can be in college or it could be something you were part of when you were in high school. The faculty review board will need to determine that you have the potential for a career in theatre. Journalism students need to demonstrate similar potential, and must have been involved with a school paper or yearbook either in college or in high school. The award amounts vary, but applications are due by February 15 each year. Have any questions? Get in contact with the head of your department.
