If you are studying accounting in the state of Texas, you may be able to receive financial assistance through the Texas Fifth Year Accounting Student Scholarship Program, offered by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy. This program supports students who demonstrate financial need as they pursue a degree in accounting. Awards of up to $3,000 are dispensed to the winners.
The requirements for applying for this scholarship are very particular. You must be enrolled at least half-time in a public or private college or university in Texas (this includes community colleges). By the time of your application, you must have completed 120 or more hours of coursework, including 15 or more toward accounting. You must not yet have taken the CPA exam, but you must be willing to sign a sworn statement that will be taking the CPA exam in the future. You also must have high grades and be able to demonstrate your financial need. This is a really great opportunity for an accounting student in Texas. Because the scholarship is only available to Texas residents studying in the state, and because you must apply at a specific point in your education, the applicant pool is limited. The deadline for this program varies.
