Are you a student living in the state of Oregon and planning to go into cosmetology, hair design, or a similar field? If so, you may qualify for financial assistance through the Oregon Barbers and Hairdressers Grant Program. This program was created by the State Board of Barbers and Hairdressers, now known as the Board of Cosmetology. The scholarship is available annually, and varies depending on the funding available each year. Since 1986, the board has awarded more than one million dollars to students throughout the state.
How do you qualify? You will have to enroll full time in a program which is at least nine months long, or 900 hours (as measured by the clock). The program must be in barbering, cosmetology, manicure or hair design, and the school must participate in Federal Title IV financial aid programs and also be located in Oregon. You must fill out the FAFSA form in order to demonstrate your financial need in order to be considered. If you are planning on embarking on a career as a cosmetologist in Oregon, this is a must-apply scholarship! Because it is limited to your state, the candidate pool is also limited, and your chances of winning are good.
