If you are a minority medical student, you may want to apply for the Endowment For South Asian Students of Indian Descent Scholarship. This scholarship is for Pennsylvania residents, and awards $2,000. In order to be eligible, you must have a South Asian Indian background. You do not need to be from India yourself; you can be descended from an immigrant, who may be a parent, grandparent, or great-grandparent. You need to be a full time medical student at an accredited school in Pennsylvania, and you need to be in either your second, third or fourth year.
To apply, turn in the FAFSA form to demonstrate your financial need. Submit the scholarship form along with two reference letters (not from family members) as well as a letter on school letterhead which verifies you are in your second, third or fourth year. Finally, type a single page essay which explains why you decided to become a physician and what contributions you will be able to make to the medical field when you become a doctor someday. Turn in your completed application and all other components by the September 30th deadline for consideration. Good luck winning this great award!
