Are you studying German? Would you love a chance to travel to Germany and practice reading and conversing in person? With the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals, it may be possible. This is a full-year fellowship program for work-study. Each year, CBYX chooses 75 Americans to embark on an educational adventure in Germany. The program starts in July with two months of intensive language study in the country. You do not need to know any German to apply! You then receive four months of instruction at a German college, followed by a five month internship in a career field of your choice.
For students who dream of living and working in Germany, this is an extraordinary opportunity. To be eligible, you must be a US citizen or a permanent resident between ages 18 and 24. You must have a high school diploma; you do not need to be enrolled in college. You do however need to demonstrate interest in your career field (work or volunteer). You must express a strong interest in Germany and international affairs as well as your own American identity. This is a great choice for a student who will be pursuing foreign language in school, or a young professional looking to jump-start a career abroad. Apply by December 1.
