For Maryland students pursuing graduate degrees as well as working students, the Maryland Graduate and Professional School Scholarship program is a great source of funding. This fund pays out $1,000-$5,000 per year (renewable contingent upon continuing strong academic performance and commitment) to qualifying students in a variety of fields.
To qualify, you must be attending a partner school. These include the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Schools of Social Work, Law, Dentistry, Medicine, or Pharmacy, the University of Baltimore School of Law, the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, or the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Some other institutions are also acceptable if you are pursuing social work or nursing (a master’s degree), or your first professional pharmacy degree. Awards are given out on the basis of financial need, so you will have to submit the FAFSA to apply. You are eligible to receive an award for up to eight semesters if you continue to submit the FAFSA and show financial need. For a student interested in law, social work, veterinary medicine, dentistry, nursing, or becoming a doctor, this scholarship is well worth applying for.
