If you’re a student athlete in high school, you already know how demanding it can be to play a team sport. When you get into college, that work will be compounded. Between academics and team sports obligations, you will find it next to impossible to work your way through and pay for tuition, room and board. That is why it is very important for college athletes and future college athletes to search and apply for athletic scholarships.
If you land a spot on the official team when you are accepted into college, the school itself may very well offer you a full ride. If not, though, you can still apply for scholarships for athletes. These are available for players who are on their schools’ official teams as well as those who are not. Some athletic scholarships are open to students who have simply played in high school. Here, you can search for athletic scholarships offered by universities, as well as those offered by private organizations. Some of these scholarships will pay for school in full, while others may pay for part or all of your tuition, or help you handle some other cost of attendance. You may even find a scholarship here that will pay everything plus a stipend.
