About the Progressive Automotive X PRIZE Competition
The goal of the Progressive Automotive X PRIZE is to inspire a new generation of viable, super-efficient vehicles to offer consumers more choices and make their lives better as a result.
Raising the Stakes:
- $10 million in prizes will be awarded to the teams that win a stage race for clean, production-capable and super fuel-efficient vehicles that exceed 100 MPG equivalent fuel economy (MPGe).
- MPGe, which stands for Miles per Gallon or Equivalent, will take into account energy equivalence no matter what the source.
A Competition for the Ages:
- A series of dramatic events, to be completed by mid-year 2010, will help determine the winners.
- Events will take place on city, suburban and rural roads between 30 and 200 miles in length, and teams may have to navigate slick and snowy roads, mountainous conditions and downtown city streets.
